Our passion for poetry guides us to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in the infinite possibilities of the written word. We conduct workshops, contests, outreach programs and readings to promote poetry in the community.
St. Louis Poetry Center will sponsor two fee workshops this fall. Some scholarships are available. Richard Newman will conduct a workshop on "How to Get Your Poem Past the Screeners to the Editor" on October 9. Jeff Hamilton will conduct a workshop on November 13 , "About that First Draft..."
Both workshops will run 10am to 3pm. Lunch is included. Fee: $50 for SLPC members, $60 for non-members.
The 2010-2011 SLPC workshops begin on Sunday, September 19 with critic Jeff Friedman. Submission deadline is Saturday, September 11th at 5 pm, whether by mail or email. (If you have been out of the loop, this deadline changed last spring so take note and mark your calendar.)

SECOND FRIDAY NOTES, a new reading series incorporating musicians begins at Whole Foods Market at Woods Mill and Clayton in their spacious and inviting public cafe space. This month's reading on Friday, September10, will showcase St. Louis area poets featured in the recently published Flood Stage: An Anthology of St. Louis Poets. Musical guest will be singer songwriter, Ro Anderson. St. Louis poet Dwight Bitikofer will be the emcee for the event.
The reading's price is irresistible: Free.
Note: Whole Foods features a wine tasting prior to our reading from which you could easily transition into the reading and performance.
