Dye and Lindsay McHugh. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE POETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nANGEL C. DYE is a poet and professor of African American Literature with roots in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin and Dallas-Ft. Worth\, Texas. Dye received her B.A. in English from Howard University\, her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Kentucky\, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literatures from Rutgers. She is the author of two poetry collections entitled BREATHE (2021) and My Mouth a Constant Prayer (2023)\, and her work has appeared widely in journals and magazines. Dye teaches courses on Black women’s writing\, Harlem Renaissance Literature & Culture\, and more at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLINDSAY McHUGH is a poet and journalist based in St. Louis. Her debut chapbook\, un-memory\, was published by Bottlecap Press in 2025. She publishes journalism under the byline Lindsay Toler. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVENUE

Calvocoressi is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships including a Stegner Fellowship and Jones Lectureship from Stanford University; a Rona Jaffe Woman Writer’s Award; a Lannan Foundation residency in  Marfa\, TX; the Bernard F. Conners Prize from The Paris Review; and a residency from the Civitella di Ranieri Foundation\, among others. Calvocoressi’s poems have been published or are forthcoming in numerous magazines and journals including The Baffler\, The New York Times\, POETRY\, Boston Review\, Kenyon Review\, Tin House\, and The New Yorker. Calvocoressi is an Editor at Large at Los Angeles Review of Books\, and Poetry Editor at Southern Cultures. Calvocoressi teaches at UNC Chapel Hill and lives in Old East Durham\, NC\, where joy\, compassion\, and social justice are at the center of their personal and poetic practice. Their new collection of poetry\, The New Economy\, is a finalist for the 2025 National Book Award in Poetry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCLAUDE CANESE JARBOE is the author of SISSY (Garden-Door Press\, 2024). Jarboe is the 2025-2026 Editorial Fellow and managing editor of Pleiades at University of Central Missouri\, and is a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, Tallgrass Artist Residency\, and Nō Studios. Their work has recently appeared in venues such as POETRY\, American Poetry Review\, and Traffic East\, to name a few. Her collection Lonely Women Make Good Lovers is the winner of the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award\, and was called “elegant\, earthy\, [and] pertinent\,” by Marilyn Hacker. Her first book\, Beautiful in the Mouth\, won the A. Poulin\, Jr. Poetry Prize. Her subsequent books\, The Keys to the Jail and All Its Charms\, include poems honored with publication in the Pushcart Prize and Best American Poetry anthologies. Keetje’s poetry and prose have appeared in The New York Times Magazine\, POETRY\, American Poetry Review\, and over a hundred other publications. She was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University\, a Bread Loaf Fellow\, the Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Resident\, a former board member and Vice President of the National Book Critics Circle\, and is the recipient of a 2025 NEA fellowship. She lives in Montana with her wife and children. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAARON COLEMAN is a poet\, translator\, educator\, and scholar of the African Diaspora. He is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts\, Cave Canem\, the Fulbright Program\, and the American Literary Translators Association. His debut poetry collection\, Threat Come Close\, was the winner of the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award\, and his chapbook\, St. Trigger\, won the Button Poetry Prize. He is also the translator of Afro-Cuban poet Nicolás Guillén’s 1967 collection\, The Great Zoo\, selected for the Phoenix Poet Series by University of Chicago Press. His poems\, essays\, and translations have appeared in publications including The New York Times\, Boston Review\, Callaloo\, and Poetry Magazine. From Metro-Detroit\, Coleman has lived and worked with youth in locations including Spain\, South Africa\, Chicago\, St. Louis\, and Kalamazoo. He previously received a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University and spent time before his MFA program working as a high school teacher at John Burroughs School in St. Louis. He continues his love of ecology through his writing while also exploring community\, love\, music\, and the importance of the aforementioned in the presence of environmental degradation and systemically permitted/propagated discrimination and violence\, with the hope of understanding himself and the world around him. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLYDIA GOLITZ is a second-year MFA student at Washington University in St. Louis. Her latest is Now Do You Know Where You Are (Copper Canyon)\, a 2022 New York Times Notable Book and NPR “Book We Love.” She is a grateful recipient of honors from the National Endowment for the Arts\, PEN\, and the Library of Congress\, as well as from the Whiting and Guggenheim Foundations. Levin teaches for the Bennington Writing Seminars\, the MFA program at Bennington College\, and serves as Distinguished Writer in Residence at Maryville University in St. Louis. Her first book of prose\, House of Feels\, comes out from Graywolf Press in 2027. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMELISSA QUALLS has taught literature\, composition\, and creative writing in the English department at Lindenwood University since 2002. She earned her MFA from Lindenwood University in 2018 and is an active member of Saint Louis Poetry Center\, Babler Poetry Society\, and Poetry in the Woods (2023\, 2024\, & 2025). Most recently\, her poem “They look so small\, lying there” won Honorable Mention in the 2024 Wednesday Club Original Poetry competition\, she has published two poems “For Nora” and “Wednesday Afternoon\, April 4th” in Nine Mile Literary Magazine (Fall 2024)\, and her poem “Wabi Sabi” won first place in Saturday Writers “Anything Goes” Contest (March 2025). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTEDDY NORRIS is a retired professor of English who taught composition\, poetry\, and creative writing for two decades and edited a community college literary journal for five years. Her work has appeared in various journals\, including Adanna\, Broad River Review\, Cable Street\, Flying South\, Kakalak\, Little Patuxent Review\, and The Switchgrass Review. She is the author of two chapbooks\, Pillars of Salt and In Transit\, published by Finishing Line Press and The Poetry Box\, respectively. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKRISTIN EMANUEL is a PhD candidate researching poetry and poetics at Washington University in St. Louis. Her debut poetry collection\, Birdwatching in the 4th Dimension\, was recently selected by Shann Ray as the winner of the 2025 Emma Howell Rising Poet Prize\, and it will be published by Willow Springs Books in early 2026. She contributes book reviews to the Jewish Book Council. She received a Pushcart Prize Honorable Mention and was nominated for Best Spiritual Literature. The broad range of media and subject matter presented reflects the ongoing influence of the art of the second-wave women’s liberation movement\, which engendered unprecedented cultural change\, shifting art-making out of the isolated studio and hallowed institutions into both more intimate domestic and broader public spheres. The ensuing transformation ushered in generations of artists addressing identity\, the body\, and the affirmation of personal experience. It bears witness to both the beauty and violence of rurality and the United States with linguistic whimsy and structural inventiveness. Her most recent book\, Chamber after Chamber\, won the 2023 Juniper Prize for Poetry and is a meditation on the word “heart” and its many meanings. Thoughtful and daring poetry\, Chamber after Chamber was published just days after Saara’s death at age 48. Cowden Memorial Fellowship. Scott’s creative work has appeared in a variety of publications including Acorn\, Cream City Review\, Humana Obscura\, Poetry Midwest\, Quarter After Eight\, Southern Indiana Review\, and others. Scott lives with his family in St. Louis and works in Jewish communal settings. He serves as a poetry editor for december magazine. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichael Pfeifer earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and returned to earn an M.A. in English\, studying poetry with Larry Levis. He earned an M.F.A. in poetry from the University of Iowa’s Writer’s Workshop where he studied with Marvin Bell\, Henry Carlile\, Donald Justice and Sandra McPherson. He has published in numerous literary journals and received the 1980 St. Louis Poetry Center Chancellor’s Award\, judged by Howard Nemerov\, and the 1987 Poet Lore Ratner-Ferber Award. Her first full-length poetry collection\, Bittering the Wound\, was selected by Douglas Kearney for the 2021 Center for African American Poetry and Poetics Book Prize and was awarded the 2024 Kate Tufts Discovery Award by Claremont Graduate University. She’s the recipient of a journalism fellowship from the Economic Security Project and Teen Vogue\, and has written for The Nation\, The New York Times\, Teen Vogue\, The Guardian\, In These Times Magazine\, and more. Germain is also the recipient of poetry fellowships from the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission\, Jack Jones Literary Arts\, Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop\, and more. Her first poetry chapbook\, When the Ghosts Come Ashore\, was published by Button Poetry in 2016. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nALISON C. ROLLINS was awarded a 2023-2024 Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship and named a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow in 2019. In 2021\, her essay “Dispatch from the Racial Mountain” was selected by contest judge Kiese Laymon as the winner of the Gulf Coast prize in nonfiction. Her work\, across genres\, has appeared or is forthcoming in American Poetry Review\, Black Warrior Review\, Iowa Review\, The New York Times Magazine\, and elsewhere. A Cave Canem and Callaloo fellow\, she was a 2016 recipient of the Poetry Foundation’s Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship. In 2018\, she was a recipient of the Rona Jaffe Writers’ Award and in 2020\, the winner of a Pushcart Prize. Rollins is the author of Black Bell (Copper Canyon Press\, 2024) and the debut poetry collection\, Library of Small Catastrophes (Copper Canyon Press\, 2019) which was a 2020 Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award nominee. Rote notions of home and the domestic are reimagined in these poems as estranging\, excessive\, and populated by unknowable characters. Exploring themes of family\, sacrifice\, disease\, death\, money\, cooking\, romance\, sex\, art\, and the visceral qualities of the everyday\, the poems twist themselves into binds for the reader to undo or surrender to. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFRANCOFILAMENTSby Eileen G’Sell \n\n\n\nVacillating between prose and verse\, Francofilaments presents a varied sojourn through a woman’s trials and tribulations as reimagined\, and filtered through\, French culture and film. Several poems are based on\, or excerpt from\, interviews G’Sell conducted with French or French-speaking actors and filmmakers—including Juliette Binoche\, Celine Sciamma\, and Isabelle Huppert—while others excerpt from an extensive list of reviews and essays published on Francophone cinema. In investigating Francophilia\, G’Sell likewise plumbs the depths of national\, gendered\, and racial identity. While her background as a critic informs many of these poems\, the collection is also based in part on her experience as a single woman in her thirties—chronicling romantic (mis)adventures as well as orbiting more serious themes around sexuality\, mortality\, and pregnancy loss. This volume is a cinematic excavation of interiority—the author’s\, but also that which we see and hear onscreen.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE POETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoAnna Novak‘s memoir Contradiction Days was published by Catapult in July 2023. Her short story collection Meaningful Work won the Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Contest and was published by FC2. She is the author of the novel I Must Have You and three books of poetry: New Life; Abeyance\, North America; and Noirmania. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker\, The Paris Review\, the New York Times\, The Atlantic\, and other publications. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEileen G’Sell is a poet and critic with recent contributions to Poetry\, Oversound\, Hyperallergic\, The Baffler\, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. In 2023\, she received the Rabkin Prize for arts journalism. Her second volume of poetry\, Francofilaments\, is forthcoming from Broken Sleep Books in late 2024; in 2025\, her first nonfiction book\, Lipstick\, will be published as part of Bloomsbury’s Object Lessons series. Kumming has a Masters Degree in English and taught ESL and Comp at the University level. A former RN\, he completed a career as a medical products sales rep and trainer in 2010. Mark is 72 and returned to writing poetry two years ago after a 50 year hiatus. He volunteers with Saint Louis Poetry Center and also raises money for Circle of Concern food pantry in Valley Park. He facilitates the Babler Poetry Society\, a collection of St. Louis poets who write poetry and read one another’s work. Her books include The Animal Is Chemical (Four Way Books\, 2023)\, awarded the Levis Prize in Poetry; The New Nudity (Saturnalia Books\, 2017); Lullaby (with Exit Sign) (Saturnalia Books\, 2013)\, awarded the Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize; The Frame Called Ruin (New Issues\, 2012)\, Editor’s Selection/Runner Up for the Green Rose Prize; and A Glass of Milk to Kiss Goodnight (Margie/Intuit House\, 2007)\, awarded the Margie Book Prize. In addition\, she is co-author with Michelle Boisseau of the best-selling textbook Writing Poems\, 8th ed. (Pearson\, 2011). Her poetry has appeared in The American Poetry Review\, The Believer\, The Kenyon Review\, Ploughshares\, Poetry\, and elsewhere. She is a Professor of English and teaches in the MFA program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAsha Futterman is a poet and an actor from Chicago. She has an MFA in poetry from Washington University in St. Louis\, and is now a teaching fellow at WashU. Her chapbook\, song of gray\, is forthcoming from The Song Cave. Gee\, Carolina Hotchandani and Catherine Anderson for a Perugia Press Showcase reading. \n\n\n\nDespite massive changes in the publishing industry over the last couple of decades\, the small press has remained critical as a home for poetry. This month’s reading will feature three established poets who’ve all shared a common home\, Perugia Press. Learn more >> \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE POETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMelody S. Gee‘s first book of poetry\, Each Crumbling House\, was published by Perugia Press in 2010. Her other books are The Dead in Daylight (Cooper Dillon Books\, 2016) and The Convert’s Heart is Good to Eat (Driftwood Press\, 2022). Melody’s work has received support from the Sustainable Arts Foundation\, the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis\, and Kundiman. A former English professor\, Melody now works in communications and marketing\, and lives with her family in St. Louis\, Missouri. Her first collection of memoir essays is forthcoming from the University of Iowa Press. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarolina Hotchandani is a Latinx/South Asian poet born in Brazil and raised in various parts of the United States. Her debut poetry collection The Book Eaters won the 2023 Perugia Press Prize and was released in September 2023. Hotchandani holds degrees from Brown\, Texas State\, and Northwestern universities. Her honors include scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference\, Rona Jaffe Foundation\, Community of Writers\, Tin House Writers’ Workshop\, and Napa Valley Writers’ Conference. Her poetry has appeared in AGNI\, Alaska Quarterly Review\, Beloit Poetry Journal\, Blackbird\, Cincinnati Review\, Missouri Review\, Prairie Schooner\, and other journals. She is a Goodrich Assistant Professor of English in Omaha\, Nebraska\, where she lives with her husband and daughter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCatherine Anderson‘s most recent book is a memoir\, My Brother Speaks in Dreams: Of Family\, Beauty & Belonging (Wising Up Press). She has published four collections of poetry\, including Everyone I Love Immortal (Woodley Press)\, Woman with a Gambling Mania (Mayapple Press)\, The Work of Hands (Perugia Press) and In the Mother Tongue (Alice James Books). She has received awards in poetry from the Massachusetts Artists’ Foundation (many years ago)\, and more recently\, I-70 Review and Crab Orchard Review. Whittemore’s third collection explores the complexities of love—romantic\, familial\, and love for place—and wonders at cycles of life\, finding that: “Every habit / even love—strangest / of them all—offers exhaustion / and renewal.” Moving seamlessly from meditations on the moon’s phases to explorations of dream spaces to searches for meaning through patterns of love and loss\, Whittemore’s work embodies the mysteries of dichotomies—grief and joy\, consciousness and unconsciousness\, habit and spontaneity—and how they coexist to create our identities. Throughout the collection\, Whittemore reveals how interior nature manifests into exterior habits and how physical landscapes shape the psyche. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAPOCRYPHAL GENESISTravis Mossotti \n\n\n\nApocryphal Genesis comes as a reminder of how deeply personal an impersonal world can often feel. The failed promises of the previous centuries are mere preamble to the predicaments of the current one. Humanity’ s contentment to entertain the illusion of control over the world around us is also the source of our collective discontent. In Mossotti’s poems\, dark humor underpins every turn. His wit cuts through the bang and blab of what passes for polite discourse\, and his visions are jarring and delightful in equal measure. His poems cinematically zoom from the exceedingly distant vantages of “ telescopes scraping deeper into the womb / of the universe” to the microscopic “ space between the whirl of electrons.” While the ghost of Apollinaire guides the reader through these haunting poems\, it’ s the poet himself who’ s on display more often than not (like a moth pinned inside a glass case)\, naked and unadorned. Apocryphal Genesis is a book that’ s mature enough to be unimpressed with the trappings of maturity. It’ s the first glance the poet’ s after\, subtle movement of stirrings under the leaf litter\, and page after page\, Mossotti transforms the cosmically divine into something indelible. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE POETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAMIE WHITTEMORE (she/her) is the author of Glass Harvest (Autumn House Press)\, Star-Tent: A Triptych (Tolsun Books)\, and Nest of Matches (Autumn House Press\, 2024). She was the 2020-2021 Poet Laureate of Murfreesboro\, Tennessee\, and was named a 2020 Academy of American Poets Poet Laureate Fellow. Through her laureateship she partnered with Southern Word to offer Write with Pride\, a series of poetry workshops and open mics for LGBT+ teens in Rutherford and Davidson counties. She is Director of MTSU Write\, a from-home\, one-on-one creative writing certificate program and teaches creative writing at Eastern Illinois University. She holds degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (B.A.)\, Lewis & Clark College (M.A.T.)\, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (M.F.A.). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Gettysburg Review\, Blackbird\, The Missouri Review Poem of the Week\, Cold Mountain Review\, Pleiades\, The Account\, and elsewhere. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTRAVIS MOSSOTTI‘s previous collections are About the Dead\, Field Study\, Narcissus Americana\, and Racecar Jesus. He’ s been the recipient of the Miller Williams Poetry Prize\, the May Swenson Book Award\, the Christopher Smart – Joan Alice Poetry Prize\, the Alma Book Award\, and others. Mossotti’s fifth collection\, Apocryphal Genesis\, was just released with Saturnalia Books. He lives in Baltimore and teaches at Goucher College. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREYES RAMIREZ (he/him) is a Houstonian\, writer\, educator\, curator\, and organizer of Mexican and Salvadoran descent. He authored the short story collection The Book of Wanderers (2022)\, a 2023 Young Lions Fiction Award Finalist\, from University of Arizona Press’ Camino del Sol series and the poetry collection El Rey of Gold Teeth (2023) from Hub City Press. His latest curatorial project\, The Houston Artist Speaks Through Grids\, explores the use of grids in contemporary Houston art\, literature\, history\, and politics.
