Saint Louis Poet Laureate Coronation Ceremony

Pacia Elaine Anderson was officially appointed and sworn in as the fourth Poet Laureate for the City of St.
Louis
. The Saint Louis Poet Laureate will promote the art of poetry and encourage literacy and learning throughout the St. Louis region. Pacia collaborates as a poet, visual and teaching artist, creative consultant, arts administrator, and community caregiver with numerous groups and individuals, from large institutions to small organizations, both locally and nationally.

“Being named the fourth Poet Laureate of the city of St. Louis is a tremendous honor,” Anderson said. “I look forward to continuing the work of our poetic and cultural forbearers while amplifying new ideas and ways of engaging with the art form and using poetry as a method of gathering us together in the spirit of collectivism that provides the loving connection that moves humanity forward.”

ABOUT THE POET

Pacia Elaine Anderson is a visual, spoken, and teaching word artist who currently serves as the Program Lead of the Regional Arts Commission’s Community Arts Training Institute, Program Coordinator for Good Journey Development Foundation, and as a teaching artist with a host of regional organizations. She is the Missouri-St. Louis City Regional Coordinator for Poetry Out Loud, the NEA’s national recitation competition. The St. Louis Visionary Awards named Pacia the Community Impact Artist for 2020-2021.

For several years Pacia served as assistant to inaugural St. Louis Poet Laureate Dr. Michael Castro. She is an Urban Bush Women SLI and a New Leaders Council-St. Louis alumnus, and a founding member of the youth-based art camp Cherokee Street Reach. She also served as the past Liaison for the Great Rivers Greenway Artists of Color Council.

Pacia has served as a consulting artist and national workshop facilitator with Americans for the Arts’ Artists at the Community Development Table initiative and serves on the boards of Saint Louis Poetry Center, Volunteer Lawyers and Accounts for the Arts, and The St. Louis Art Place Initiative.
